CU Goes 2-0, While the BIG XII Goes 12-0 For the First Time in History 6 Sep 2008
Colorado earns another win to become 2-0 on the season, while the entire BIG XII went 12-0 for the first time in history, thus cementing the conference as the TOUGHEST college football conference in the country!!!
The Buffs overcame a 21-7 halftime deficit to win the home opener by a score of 31-24. Perhaps the Buffs were looking ahead to the West Virginia night came coming up on Sep 18th, or maybe Eastern Washington was just better than the Buffs expected. Either way, Colorado pulled their game together in the 2nd half to outscore EWU by 24-3.
Colorado is 2-0 for the first time since 2005! The Buffs’ balanced attack on offense and stellar 2nd half defense proved to be the key. Corner back, Cha’pelle Brown, earned his 3rd career interception with less than 2 minutes to play in the 4th quarter to give the Buffs the go-ahead score. While QB, Cody Hawkins, had a solid day completing 28 of 38 passes for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns. CU’s rushing attack added 96 yards on the ground.
This was a hard earned win for the Buffaloes against a Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) powerhouse, but the CU defense held the Eagles in check in the 2nd half and let the CU offense do what it does best – score points!
This weekend was not only a great win for the Buffs, but also a history making weekend for the BIG XII conference. For the first time since the inception of the BIG XII (1995), all 12 teams won their games! 10 of 12 teams are 2-0, while Texas A&M and Baylor are both 1-1. Living out here in California, we hear a lot of talk about the PAC 10. Sportscasters around the country typically view the SEC as the powerhouse conference of college football. But when all said and done, the PAC 10 and SEC has a combined record of 11-7 and 18-4 respectively. The BIG XII sits on top with the best record in the country at 22-2!!!
CU moved up two spots to #40 in the USA Today’ Poll.
GO BUFFS and GO BIG XII!!!
